Fears: Being tied to a herd again, failing to stand up in what he believes, running into his brother.
Ambitions: Remain out of a herd, gain alliances, basically stay out of trouble as much as he can.
Personality: Atlas is a gentleman through and through. This handsome brute is softly spoken, his words spoken in a thick Irish brogue. He’s been told his voice is very soothing, and he uses it to his advantage to calm those who need it. It’s also very powerful when he’s angered or has to raise his voice, but this isn’t a regular occurrence. He’s very level headed and will listen to the two sides of every story before making his judgement.
His nature is calm and collected, but he does have his bouts of anger; though these are only new occurrences. They have only appeared since his brother chased him from his home. He’s a bitter soul that now wants nothing to do with being in a herd ever again due to his past. He’d rather travel, meeting others one or two at a time. Large groups now seem to intimidate this impressive beast. He just can’t get over his fear. He has so many more weaknesses than before; he could almost seem pathetic if it weren’t for his thirst of knowledge and exploration.
This intelligent stag has an answer for any question, or if he doesn’t he will go look for one. He wants to help others, and if that is through parting with knowledge so be it. He is a fantastic listener too, as he’s genuinely interested in what others have to say. He’s easily fascinated, but also easily intimidated. He’s no longer as trustworthy as he used to be, and he doesn’t dispatch his loyalties as freely anymore. These things need to be earned, and earned well. This doesn’t mean he’s rude; quite the opposite actually. This friendly giant will do anything for company, just in small doses and with an escape route clearly marked.
If push comes to shove, Atlas can be a fierce warrior. He really needs to be driven to do so. The only reason he didn’t fight back to Iolo was the fact that he loved his brother, no matter how bad the equine was. He didn’t want to hurt him, or disappoint his sire. If he had fought, he would have easily overpowered Iolo. This strong individual will stand up for what he believes in, though usually he keeps it peaceful. He’s never had to properly defend himself; his size is enough to intimidate others. He doesn’t want to hurt; it just isn’t in his nature.
History: Atlas was born to a very large herd, one that dominated the lands of whence he came. Born to the lead stallion and mare, he was always going to be a high ranking individual. This charming colt won the heart of most of his herd, his polite and friendly nature making him a favourite to take over his father’s place; with all those except a few herd members. With a herd as large as Atlas’s fathers, there were almost sub herds within. Though they all turned to his father for guidance, him being absolute leader, they often had free reign within their own small territories. There were some that disapproved with the choice of Atlas to take over, one being his elder brother. Iolo hated the fact that Atlas was the ‘golden child’, the next in line, the favourite. He wanted revenge, and was he going to get it.
Atlas’s sire eventually passed and his dam not much later. Atlas was left in charge, and though sadness had swept over the herd, they were pleased that it was left in the capable grasp of their new leader. All was quiet for a year, everything passed as smoothly as Atlas could have asked for. The large brute kept a firm but fair hold over his lands, he was very well respected and had earned the loyalty with far away herds and his own members. Though, as lead, he never took up a mare as his equal. Never had one come along that caught his eye. He continued to rule alone, until very recently.
Five months ago, Iolo decided he’d had enough of Atlas being the ‘great’ leader. He, and a few other opposing mares and stallions, rallied together to chase the honourable leader from the lands. After some serious planning, they launched their attack. They made sure to find Atlas alone, outnumbering him. Though large, Atlas is a very kind and gentle creature. He did not like violence, which is why he shied away as quickly as he could. Given the opportunity to escape, he did; but not without some scarring. The largest runs along his rump, courtesy of Iolo himself. A reminder if you will. His neck is also littered with scars, shaped like the jaws of many different equines. Atlas left, his mind the most affected.
Since then, Atlas has wandered. Always the explorer, he’s ended up in Thunder Plains with fascination. Having never really heard of the lands, he’s glad to hear that herds are not a large part. But God’s seem to be what intrigued him the most. Atlas is as much as a historian as he is an explorer, and is eager to find out more about these beings. It will give him something to do to get over what happened to him, something he’ll be most grateful of.
