VANISHING LIGHTVanish eyed the open plains distastefully. She had not wanted to come here, and she was quite sour that she had been made to come here. While there were pros to being in an open space, such as being able to see someone from a distance, they were far outweighed by the cons, such as having nowhere to hide. She stepped over the body on the ground, walking through the long grass, imitating a calm that she didn't entirely feel. She always felt on edge when she was out in the open, and not just because of her training. Mainly it was because she was simply accustomed to the mountains, and being surrounding by flat lands was disturbing. She turned her head to glare at the mountains behind her, their distant peaks calling her home. She turned away and continued to walk.
After Atlas and Autumn had finally left the mountains, Vanish had reported the incident to the order. Not because she thought either was truly a threat, but because the order liked to know when outsiders got within a certain range of their lands. After she had made her report, she had been chastised for spending her time spying on two nobodies, instead of looking for Reyne. That irked her, since she wasn't the only one looking for him. She had then been sent to the plains to deal with a different mark, and told to get straight back to hunting Reyne when she was done. So, she had.
She paused suddenly, several feet away from the corpse, and stood as still as she could, listening. She couldn't tell what she had heard, but it had sounded strange, and she hated strange. Her creamy mane fell across her neck and face in locks, contrasted against the deep chocolate of her coat. She watched her surroundings warily, listening intently for the sound to repeat itself, but, after several minutes, it didn't, and she had to admit that she was probably being paranoid. Shaking her head, she started walking again, putting a bit more speed into her step. She was getting out of these damned plains now.

ROLAND Knowing he shouldn't venture so far from his claimed land, Roland couldn't help himself; he needed mares to hold a herd. There was no point in claiming land FOR mares if there were NO mares on the land. As a result, his search had him venturing further and further, always within a days hard gallop back to his land, and never further. This days travel brought him to a beautiful plain. Undisturbed, green grass seemed to speak of no trespassers in some time, which wasn't really beneficial to him. At least that is what he thought until he spotted a very small branch that held a little bit of a horses banner. The oddest ivory color tuffs of tail hair he had ever seen, but the scent screamed essa and his nostrils flared with her scent. If he couldn't find her today, he would find her later.
His trek took his deeper into the plains, his giant hooves seemingly making no sound. His first three years all been nothing but traveling and he had had to learn to conceal his massive bulk when it came to his mother's safety. Some things just never left you, and being able to mask and hide his hoofbeats was something he had learned then. Now, the massive black shadow that magic appeared out of no where . . . there was nothing he could do about that. Suddenly, he saw a flash of cream high above the land and it paused, seemingly floating above the ground, at least until he spotted the deep chocolate mare that must have belonged to the scent that was dancing along the insides of his nostrils.
Seeing her discomfort at being in the plains, taking it for being alone and in the plains, he made himself make noise, snapping a fallen twig with his hoof, brushing up against bushes with his legs, lowering his maw down and snagging clippings off the bushes, until he was completely in view but not within striking distance of her hooves. "Don't like these quiet plains, Lady?" he asked, judging by her quick pace and outward appearance.

VANISHING LIGHTIt wasn't long before Vanish noticed she wasn't alone. She always paid attention to her surroundings, and she spied the big horse quickly. It was hard not too, it was a big horse, and black as black could be, so, he stood out. She showed no sign of seeing him though, and just kept going; however, she kept an eye on him, and was disappointed to notice that he seemed to be headed toward her. She continued to ignore him however, hoping that he would continue on past her. Her demeanor was that of a mare that either hadn't seen the big horse approaching, or was simply not afraid. That was exactly what she wanted the big horse to assume. Not that she was afraid. Not quite, at least. She was wary, and a little nervous; even a trained assassin had weaknesses, and Vanish was by no means the best.
Vanish was not as paranoid as many mares she'd encountered. She'd never feared force-breeding; as far as she was concerned, it just meant that she might get the opportunity to bring a new life into the herd, and someday, maybe the order. Being force-claimed didn't bother her either; she was fast and clever and knew she could escape any dunce from the outside world. She was wary of strange stallions, but also strange mares, and she was not the type to trust easily. But neither was she a particularly belligerent creature, unless it was called for. She had trouble understanding the subtleties and details of social interaction, which often made her seem colder than she was, but really, all she wanted was to be left alone to do her job.
So, she was unhappy about the stallion approaching her. When he got close enough, she caught his scent, and confirmed his gender; she also noticed that, despite his bulk, he moved soundlessly. She was surprised, and instantly on alert. That was something she was still practising, though she was getting better, and she could think of no reason for a horse to learn such a skill, unless he was a predator. She heard a branch snap behind her, and she whipped her head around to look at him. Obviously it was intentional, to get her attention. Fine. He continued to make noise, obviously not wanting to sneak up on her, but that only made her more suspicious. She turned to face him full on, her face a blank mask. Her voice was neutral when she spoke, neither unwelcoming nor friendly.
"No. And I don't like quiet horses either."

ROLAND Placing all four hooves, Roland cocked his head to the side just a little. She seemed to not have noticed him until he started making noise at which point she whipped around and pinned him with a blank expression. That wasn't something he was use to, but then again, each mare was her own horse and each had a different personality. You would know what type of horse you were meeting til you spoke and met them. "I do apologize, Lady," he stated, dipping his head to the mare. "My name is Roland, Monarch of Farlom. I mean you no harm, I promise. I simply wanted to speak to you," he stated, taking two steps back to give the mare some more room.
That being said, he glanced around the plains, suddenly very curious as to what a single mare was doing out here all alone, he turned back to her, "What are you doing out here anyway?" he asked, not actually voicing the 'alone' part, because after closer look at the mare, he found that she might not be able to take on a stallion as large as himself, but she could do a lot of danger just the way she was.

VANISHING LIGHTRoland the monarch. Ah, well, she would have to be careful. It would not due to cause trouble with this stallion; she did not dare bring a monarch's ire against the order. She didn't think that would be hard to avoid; he was not displaying aggressive behaviour, and she figured she could keep everything civil quite easily. She dipped her head respectfully in response to him. She wanted to tell him that he could do her no harm, but she didn't want to seem arrogant, and she didn't know if it was strictly true.
"Greetings, King Roland, I am Vanish."
She kept her eyes on him as he looked around, but she kept her ears perked for sounds behind or beside her. She considered his question, mentally asking him what he was doing out here, away from his herd and his lands. Was it very wise for him to be so far from them? Could an outsider not creep in while he was away and cause trouble? She then thought about the corpse hidden in the grass, and knew she couldn't tell him the truth.
"I'm just taking a walk."

ROLAND Judging by the short answers he was getting from the mare, he figured that she wanted to be left alone. However, he needed mares for his herd and he couldn't let a fine looking mare go without at least asking if she was part of a herd. "Please, answer me this one question, and then I will leave you be," he stated, dipping his head a little bit more.
"Would you like to join my herd?" he asked, not really meaning to ask that question but found it had just kind of rolled out.
